“A message arrives from a friend:
“Please help me urgently.”
Or perhaps it is from a favourite brand.
An influencer.
A colleague.
Even “Instagram Support”.
The profile looks genuine.
But profiles can be copied. Accounts can be hacked. Names and pictures can be stolen.
A direct message is therefore not proof of identity.
Before clicking a link, sending money or sharing information, stop and verify.
If a friend asks for money, contact them through another channel.
If a company sends a strange offer, visit its official website or app yourself.
If “support” asks you to log in through a message, open the platform directly instead.
Be especially careful when a message combines urgency with secrecy.
“Don’t tell anyone.”
“Act now.”
“Your account will be closed.”
Those are reasons to slow down, not speed up.
Report suspicious accounts and messages through the platform.
Think first. Click safe.
A familiar profile picture can be copied in seconds.
Trust the verification, not the appearance.
