“Off to Mombasa for two weeks!”
It sounds harmless.
But someone reading that post now knows something important:
Your home may be empty.
A different post might reveal where you work.
Another might show your child’s school.
Another might display your house keys, security badge, expensive equipment or the location of your home.
Individually, these details may seem insignificant.
Together, they can create a surprisingly detailed picture of your life.
Before posting, check your privacy settings and think about what the photograph or caption reveals.
Avoid sharing your live location, travel plans, home address, security arrangements or predictable family routines.
Ask family members to respect the same boundaries when posting about you or your children.
And consider sharing holiday photographs after you return rather than announcing that your home is currently unoccupied.
Think first. Click safe.
The internet remembers more than we do.
Before you post, ask:
“What could someone learn about me from this?”
